Built in the late 19th century, McCaig’s Tower (also called McCaig’s Folly) crowns Battery Hill above Oban. Designed to mirror the Colosseum in Rome, the circular granite structure frames sweeping views over Oban Bay, the Isle of Kerrera, and the Atlantic beyond. The gardens inside the monument provide a calm evening setting to watch the sun descend behind the islands — one of the most photographed moments in Argyll. Easily accessible by car or a short uphill walk from Oban’s harbourfront.
